Held at the beautiful Stationer’s Hall in London we were one again thrilled to mingle at the National Calendar Awards with friends from Calendar Club, Grange Communications, Pixel, Carousel Calendars, Avonside Publishing among others, whilst wandering through the exhibition and admiring all the 2017 nominations.
The NCA’s are a national event (we like to think the OSCAR’s of the calendar world) held annually celebrate the best calendar designs and bring together printers, designers, photographers, artists, publishers as well as the industry’s future ‘the student’.
And this year we were delighted to have received ten nominations and won FIVE awards!
- Winning Best 2017 Diary was Marvel Comics 2017 A5 Diary
- Star Trek fans will be pleased to hear that our Star Trek 50th Anniversary Calendar won the Best Illustrated title
- Our New Official Beano 2017 Calendar won Best Humour / Character Award
- Our Brand New Ladybird Books For Grown Ups 2017 Calendar (you may be familiar with the Hilarious Ladybird Book Range) won the Excellence in Production Award
- We were also thrilled that our Harry Potter Colouring In 2017 Calendar won the Best New Title award
We were also joined by TV star Nick Ferrari who did a fantastic job of hosting and presenting the awards and we thoroughly enjoyed the LBC Radio Star’s hilarious anecdotes throughout the night.
So after another great night, the Danilo team are now gearing up for showing our new 2018 range at Spring Fair at NEC, Birmingham this February.
Fingers crossed we can replicate our success at next year’s awards!
The Danilo Team were delighted to attend The Henries Awards again for 2015, which took place in the stunning Lancaster London Hotel on Thursday 8th October. Every year, hundreds of greeting card industry publishers and retailers attend this prestigious event which celebrates the immense creativity in the UK greeting card industry.
Now in its 20th year, The Henries featured a fantastic ‘Roaring Twenties’ theme, including Charleston Dancers as well as fun dress up items for guests. Comedian Mark Watson, also brought his own unique brand of humour as the compere of the event.
All the nominees this year were judged by a panel of over 40 prestigious retailers, including buyers from John Lewis, Scribbler, Paperchase, Waitrose, Tesco, Waterstones and a host of leading independents. And we were over the moon when we discovered our Official Despicable Me Minions Card and Wrap range won the Best Licensed Range Award. Especially as other great titles such as Frozen by UKG were also nominated. Overall, a fantastic night, and we cant wait for next year’s Henries event 🙂

Happy Friday everyone!
We hope you have some lovely plans for this weekend? The Danilo team will still be recovering from a late night at the Henries Awards yesterday – and what a fantastic night it was!
Themed in the style of Calypso Carnival, over 1000 people were in attendance at the swanky Lancaster London Hotel to celebrate the best in the UK Greeting’s Card Industry. With entertainment provided by Canadian comedian Tom Stade and a fabulous live band; publishers; retailers, artists, distributors and suppliers alike came together to have the best evening.
The Danilo Team were extremely pleased to win ‘Best Licensed Card Range award’ for our Laser Cut Greeting Cards. These are designed to beautifully laser the card cover with an iconic image so that when the card is closed, the contrasting colour of the inside pages shows through the cut out design. The range includes Family Guy’ Stewie, Star Wars Yoda, Stormtrooper and Darth Maul as well as Spongebob, Hello Kitty, Top Gear and Wallace and Gromit and are from only £2.25 each!
Also a big congrats to all the other winners, in particular to Matt and Beth Genower from Five Dollar Shake who won Honourary Achievement Award and to joint Managing Directors of Max Publishing Jackki Brown and Warren Lomax who received a Special Award for Contribution to the Card Industry
As we had such a great time, we have already put next year’s awards in our 2014 calendar!
