Thursday 18th October marks Danilo’s 40th Birthday

Danilo’s story first began 40 years ago in 1978, following the death of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll Elvis Presley, when Danilo’s Chairman Laurence Prince recognised the public’s mood to celebrate Elvis’s life. After a plane trip to Los Angeles to secure the rights for an official Elvis calendar from Colonel Tom Parker, Laurence began his journey of turning a small printing company into the Calendar, Diary, Greetings Card & Gift Wrap publishing success it has become today!

We want to celebrate this momentous occasion with you, our lovely customers, so will be offering you the chance to

danilo q and a image Amy

Amy Rowley is Danilo’s Sales Office Manager, who has a proficient background working in retail. She has indulged her passion for art and design over the past few years and has even studied and gained a qualification in graphic design, inspiring her to follow trends and culture within the art and design world.

Since joining Danilo Promotions in 2016, Amy has fully immersed herself in the culture and dynamics of the Danilo team, and continues to give fantastic customer service whilst always striving to maximise sales and she remains a strong asset to the company.

So, in order to get to know Amy a little bit better, we asked her a few questions about herself and her career…

1.What was your previous job to Danilo?

Before joining Danilo my first ever job was in retail, aged 16, which spanned across 6 years, in various companies and departments such as admin and customer services.

2. What do you most enjoy about your role at Danilo?

My role is very diverse, no two days are the same at Danilo. I enjoy working in such a friendly industry and I also love working with so many fun and exciting brands every day, especially Disney and Harry Potter to name a few!

3.Who would play you in a film of your life?

I quite like the idea of the film of my life being an animation so I would like to see myself brought to life as a cartoon character 😊

4.What 3 words would friends / family / colleagues use to describe you?

I think I would be described as patient, fun and probably clumsy!

5. Whose Calendar have you got on your wall this year?

This year I have the Disney vintage posters calendar, it’s on my fridge and features lots of my childhood faves like Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan, it’s great and is obviously a Danilo calendar!

6.What is the best piece of advice you’ve received?

Always treat everybody the way you would like to be treated!

Danilo’s National Sales Manager, Deryl Thomas, comments: “Amy is a very proficient employee and provides invaluable support to the account managers such as myself. She is professional and has a very positive manner when dealing with customers. A great asset to the sales team.”

This Friday 16th December, we’re delighted to say its National Christmas Jumper Day!

To support and raise money for #SaveTheChildren, the Danilo Team have all donned their favourite (or made their own!) Christmas jumpers to work today, and we must say we’ve seen some fun designs!

And Congratulations to Lukas from the Warehouse Team who won the Christmas Jumper Competition!!

This short video shows how the Danilo Team reconstructed on a huge scale, a section of the first ever official Elvis Presley Calendar Cover that Danilo published in 1979.

Using over 1000 of our Official Licensed Calendars, Diaries and Greetings Cards, this video is a fun way of conveying our passion for publishing, as well paying tribute to Elvis the King himself as our inspiration for creating the company all those years ago!

Minions Win at the Henries Awards!

The Danilo Team were delighted to attend The Henries Awards again for 2015, which took place in the stunning Lancaster London Hotel on Thursday 8th October. Every year, hundreds of greeting card industry publishers and retailers attend this prestigious event which celebrates the immense creativity in the UK greeting card industry.

Now in its 20th year, The Henries featured a fantastic ‘Roaring Twenties’ theme, including Charleston Dancers as well as fun dress up items for guests. Comedian Mark Watson, also brought his own unique brand of humour as the compere of the event.

All the nominees this year were judged by a panel of over 40 prestigious retailers, including buyers from John Lewis, Scribbler, Paperchase, Waitrose, Tesco, Waterstones and a host of leading independents. And we were over the moon when we discovered our Official Despicable Me Minions Card and Wrap range won the Best Licensed Range Award. Especially as other great titles such as Frozen by UKG were also nominated. Overall, a fantastic night, and we cant wait for next year’s Henries event 🙂

Today is a sad day for Danilo! Even though it’s a Friday (and its rare for us not to be super happy on a Friday), today marks our amazing Logistics Account Manager Jo Sullivan’s last ever day working with us. 😦

Jo has been a treasured member of the Danilo team for 12 years and we want to take this opportunity to thank her for all her hard work. But before she goes, we just had a few questions to ask….

1)    How does it feel to be leaving the company after 12 years?

I do feel very sad to be leaving Danilo after all these years. I love the people here and have really enjoyed working on all my accounts. Whilst there have been challenges along the way, I’ve found this job to be really rewarding. It is going to feel so strange not to work here anymore. I would like to thank Danilo for the opportunity they gave me and I will miss everyone very much.

2)    How did you come to work for Danilo?

It feels like such a long time ago, but if I remember correctly, I got a call from an agency saying there was a job going at an Official Calendar Publishers as a Production Assistant. After successfully making it through the interviews, I began my new role here in 2003. After approx. 5 years working in the Production Office I then moved up in the company, quite literally, as I moved upstairs to join the Customer Services Department.

3)    What have been your favourite memories of working here?

Wow that’s a tough one! I will miss the people I go to lunch with everyday, as we always have a laugh together. Winning a Supplier Award with ASDA has been another highlight, as this was one of the accounts I looked after, so I was very proud. Doing the ice bucket challenge in front of all my colleagues for charity is another favourite but I do have very special memories of everybody here. I’ll miss you all very much!

4)    So what is next for you?

Well I am moving to Peacehaven, to hopefully start a new chapter in my life. Work wise I’m not sure what I want to do yet. I might try something different or even train in something else. I love animals (especially dogs!) and children, and really enjoy meeting people, so who knows, the world is my oyster! .So look out Peacehaven here I come!!!

We wish you the best of Luck Jo!

Anna triumphs in London Marathon 2015

London Marathon 2015

Every year the London Marathon attracts thousands of runners but this year saw a whopping 38,000 people taking part, making it the biggest in the event’s 35-year history.

This fantastic annual event saw fund raisers, amateur runners and elite athletes tackle the 26.2 mile (42.2km) course, starting from Blackheath and ending at St James Park.

And amongst celebrities such as Formula 1 star Jenson Button and Radio 1 DJ Greg James was our own Danilo Sales Office Manager Anna Brown!

We caught up with Anna after she successfully completed the course (in a very respectable 4 hours 48 minutes!) and asked her the following questions:

1) How are you feeling today, both physically and emotionally, now that you’ve completed the Marathon?

Physically I’m feeling knackered! Unfortunately a recent foot injury took its toll so walking isn’t a good look for me today! Emotionally I feel very proud, elated and relieved. Proud mostly, of what I achieved but also because of everyone’s generosity and support. It’s really quite overwhelming.

2) How does it feel to raise over £2000 for the British Heart Foundation?

It feels fantastic! I had been more concerned about that than the run itself at one stage. But people’s generosity has been absolutely beyond expectation. It’s lovely to have so many fabulous and supportive people in my life. Am very proud and grateful to all who helped me smash my 2k target. The British Heart Foundation has a lot of meaning for me so delighted to have raised so much for such a great cause.

3) What was the atmosphere like when you were running?

The atmosphere was absolutely buzzing! Support lined the entire route. Highlights were people pumping music from their balconies, drums echoing through the underground and the brass bands. The Tower Bridge section was phenomenal as we received so many cheers and seeing my friend’s faces in the crowds at 3 points during the run were lovely.

4) What helped motivate you to keep going for all 26.2 miles of the course?

My motivation mostly came from thinking about what I was doing it for. Seeing all sorts of folk from all walks of life, all shapes and sizes, some in mad costumes….and all of them have a story and are running this ridiculous distance for their own personal reasons. At one point someone held up a banner saying “Pain is temporary, 26.2 miles is forever” and things like that really hit home. On the other hand, someone else held up a banner saying “Pain now, Beer later” and that also resonated 🙂

5) Would you do it again?

YES!! Injury meant I didn’t get to do it in my target time so will definitely do it again. Would love to do the New York Marathon, it’s on the to do list, but really don’t want to see my trainers for a little while right now!

We want to wish Anna and all the other brave Marathon runners a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS from the Danilo team!
